SOUTHFEST
Branding of a New Summer Countryside Festival
A local client recently got in touch with an idea for a new exciting festival to be hosted in the stunning South West Somerset countryside. He commissioned the lab to design a bespoke logo and brand identity for the festival based on the vision of "Rosey-Cheeked southwestians basking in the summer evening sun listening to stunning music and sharing goof vibes". I shared Mike's vision for the festival so it was easy for me to make a good start on realising this vision.
Rather than a conventional logo mark, I decided to create a logo 'artwork' which would include an atmospheric scene depicting the festival and the goings on there. I wanted to do this so the potential festival goer would instantly be able to understand what the festival is all about. The logo artwork would also double up as a beautiful banner for social media/web to gain the maximum eye catch.
Alongside the logo artwork, I also designed a selection of custom art pieces which could be used throughout the brand collateral to enhance the brand look. I also specified a range of colours, fonts and backgrounds which were all consolidated in to a PDF brand style guide document alongside instructions on how to roll the designs out.
LOGO 'ARTWORK'
The logo depicts a typical scene to be expected at the festival. That of golden sun drenching the luscious rolling hills in light & colour whilst people dance & party. The logo could also be used on posters, flyers, line ups and banners to help catch the passer-by's eye. Although the piece is very intricate, it is still 100% vector format meaning it can be infinitely scaled to suit all requirements.
FONT & COLOUR
Careful consideration was made on what fonts should be used for the festival branding. I specified a primary, secondary & tertiary typeface and outlined how they should be used. We experimented with a selection of colours and whittled it down to a collection that not only complimented the logo but also conveyed the correct feeling of warmth.
THE EXTRA MILE
To really capture the publics imagination with the branding of SouthFest, it was important to design other aspects to compliment the main logo artwork. What we did for Mike was to create additional design elements to detail any content which was created after the branding document was passed over. Mike would then have all the tools he needed to roll out the brand with impact.
